The MILAN Toilet Suite arrives as one purchase — pan, cistern and seat together — so there is nothing left to match up afterwards and nothing to discover missing on the day it goes in.

Wall faced

The pan sits flat against the wall with no gap behind it and no exposed pipework. That removes the strip of floor behind a traditional pan that nothing reaches, which is the part everybody hates cleaning.

Rimless

A traditional pan hides the water channel under a lip that runs around the inside of the bowl. Rimless does away with it — the water is directed around an open bowl instead. There is no lip to reach up under with a brush, which is where the staining and the smell usually start in an older toilet. It is the single biggest change to toilet design in the last twenty years, and it is a cleaning decision rather than a flushing one.

Tornado flush

Instead of dropping water down the front of the bowl, a tornado flush sends it around the bowl so it swirls. That scours the full surface on the way down rather than just the path the water happens to take, which is what lets a 4.5 litre flush do the work a 9 litre flush used to.

Choosing the button finish

The flush button is the one part of a toilet that gets touched every day, and it is the part that either matches the tapware or does not. Pick it against the mixer and the towel rail rather than against the pan — the ceramic is white either way.

Standard or matching hinge covers

The hinge covers are the caps where the seat bolts to the pan. Standard leaves them plain. Matching picks up the button finish, so the black or brass carries from the button through to the seat instead of stopping halfway. It is a small thing that is very obvious once you have seen it done both ways.

Set-out — measure this before you order

The set-out is the distance from the finished wall to the centre of the waste in the floor. Get it wrong and the pan will not sit against the wall, and there is no adjusting it once the floor is tiled.

An S-trap goes down through the floor. A P-trap goes back through the wall. Measure what you have before you order, and if you are unsure, take a photo of the waste with a tape across it and send it to us.
