The CHLOE Toilet Suite is a wall hung pan on a concealed in-wall cistern, supplied as one purchase with the seat included. Nothing shows in the room except the pan and the flush plate.

Wall hung, on an in-wall cistern

The pan is carried by a steel frame inside the wall rather than by the floor, so the floor runs on underneath it. That is the cleanest looking arrangement you can buy, and the easiest floor in the house to mop, because there is nothing standing on it.

It is also the arrangement that has to be planned. The frame goes in before the wall is sheeted, the cistern lives in a cavity at least 100mm deep, and the flush plate has to be reachable. Retro-fitting one into a finished bathroom means building a false wall. Decide this at the framing stage, not at the fit-off.

Rimless

A traditional pan hides the water channel under a lip that runs around the inside of the bowl. Rimless does away with it — the water is directed around an open bowl instead. There is no lip to reach up under with a brush, which is where the staining and the smell usually start in an older toilet. It is the single biggest change to toilet design in the last twenty years, and it is a cleaning decision rather than a flushing one.

Getting at it later

The valve and the inlet are serviced through the flush plate opening, so the working parts stay reachable without opening the wall. Keep the flush plate accessible — do not tile up to it or build a shelf across it.

Choosing the button finish

The flush button is the one part of a toilet that gets touched every day, and it is the part that either matches the tapware or does not. Pick it against the mixer and the towel rail rather than against the pan — the ceramic is white either way.

Standard or matching hinge covers

The hinge covers are the caps where the seat bolts to the pan. Standard leaves them plain. Matching picks up the button finish, so the black or brass carries from the button through to the seat instead of stopping halfway. It is a small thing that is very obvious once you have seen it done both ways.
