A shower mixer with a diverter is one wall control doing two jobs: it sets the temperature, and it decides whether the water comes out of the overhead rose or the hand rail. Without one you need two separate controls on the wall, or you only get one outlet.
The range covers two-way and three-way diverters from the Mica, Mica Fluted, Mica Heritage, LVB Mica, Beki, Eleniko and Kaza ranges, with round and square wall plates, in one-piece and two-piece bodies.
How a shower diverter works
A two-way diverter switches between two outlets — typically an overhead rose and a hand shower on a rail. Water goes to one or the other.
A three-way adds a third outlet, usually a bath spout, so the same control runs the shower over a bath as well.
The other decision is one-piece or two-piece. A one-piece combines the temperature control and the diverter on a single plate, which is neater on the wall and needs less tiling around it. A two-piece puts them on separate plates, which gives you a more traditional look and lets you set the temperature and switch outlets independently.
This is a decision to make before the wall is closed up, because the rough-in body is different for each. If the wall is already tiled and you are replacing an existing mixer, check what is behind it before ordering — you may only be able to change the trim kit.
