Double Towel Rail

A double towel rail carries two bars on one set of wall brackets, so it doubles the hanging length without doubling the wall space. In a bathroom shared by two people that is usually the difference between towels that dry and towels that do not.

When a double rail is the right choice

Two bars on one bracket give you around twice the hanging length of a single rail in the same wall width. That suits a shared main bathroom, an ensuite where wall space is tight, or any bathroom where the only free wall is the one behind the door.

The trade-off is depth. A double rail projects further from the wall than a single, because the second bar sits in front of the first. In a narrow bathroom or beside a doorway, measure the projection and check nothing catches on it as you walk past.

It also changes how towels dry. Two towels hanging one in front of the other get less air between them than two towels side by side on separate walls. If the bathroom has no window and no exhaust fan running, two single rails on different walls will do a better job than one double.

Height is the same as a single: around 1200mm to the lower bar.
