Bar Sinks

A bar sink is a second, smaller sink for somewhere that is not the main kitchen bench — a butler's pantry, an island, an outdoor kitchen, a laundry corner. Small enough not to eat the bench, big enough to be genuinely useful.

Where a bar sink earns its place

The most common use is the butler's pantry, where the bar sink takes the washing up and the main sink stays clear. Second is the island: a prep bowl means vegetables get rinsed where they are being chopped rather than carried across the kitchen. Third is the outdoor kitchen, where you want to rinse hands and tongs without going back inside.

Size the bowl to the job. A 380mm bowl handles glasses, hands and vegetable prep. If it needs to take a roasting dish or a stockpot, go to 550mm or 580mm — a small bowl that cannot fit the thing you want to wash gets used once and then resented.

Check the cabinet width before ordering. The sink needs the cabinet beneath it to be at least 100mm wider than the bowl cut-out, and if there is a drawer under it the bowl depth has to clear the drawer box.
