It goes on bright and gold, and within a few months it will have darkened into something closer to old bronze — unevenly, in the places hands touch it most. That is the finish behaving as intended rather than failing.

Living brass is supplied unlacquered. Natural colour variation will occur and the finish will continue to develop over time.
