A trim kit is the part of a wall mixer you can see and touch — the handle, the wall plate and the escutcheon. The working half lives inside the wall and stays there. Which means the look of a shower can be changed without a tiler, a plumber's day rate, or a hole in the wall.

When you want a trim kit
Changing the finish of an existing bathroom. If the chrome has dated and you want matte black or gunmetal, and the body in the wall is one of these ranges, a trim kit is the entire job. The old trim unscrews, the new one goes on.
Finishing a new build. The body went in months ago, before the wall was sheeted. The trim goes on at the very end, after the tiling, which is why it is bought separately and often much later.
Replacing damaged hardware. A cracked handle or a scratched plate does not mean replacing the mixer.
Before you order
A trim kit only fits the body it was designed for. A Mica trim will not go onto a Beki body. If you are changing the trim on an existing shower, identify what is behind the wall first — the brand is usually stamped on the cartridge under the handle, and it is worth taking the old handle off to look before ordering.
