Cut Moon Mirrors

A cut moon mirror is a circle or oval with one side sliced flat. That flat edge lets the mirror sit hard against a wall return, a shower screen or a corner where a full round shape would leave an awkward gap — which is exactly the problem most ensuites have.

The range covers left cut, right cut, half moon and crescent shapes, in 77cm and 91cm widths, mostly backlit with a frosted band and a demister. Heights run to around 130cm.

Left cut or right cut

This is the one decision to get right, and it is easy to get backwards. The flat edge goes against the obstruction. So if your vanity sits with a wall return on its left, you want the flat edge on the left — and that is a left cut mirror. Stand where you will be standing, look at the wall, and note which side the wall comes in on.

If the vanity is free on both sides, a half moon works better than either cut — the flat edge goes at the top or the bottom and the shape stays symmetrical from left to right.

Because nearly all of these are backlit, they need a power supply behind the glass. Decide on the mirror before the electrician does the rough-in, and mark the flat side on the plan so the point ends up on the correct half of the wall.
