A bath is the largest single item in most bathrooms and the hardest to change your mind about once the floor is tiled. The choice is really between a tub that stands on its own and one that sits into the room.

Freestanding, back to wall or insert
A freestanding bath sits clear of every wall. It needs floor space all around it and a floor-mounted filler or a wall spout long enough to reach, and it is the choice when the bath is meant to be the thing you notice in the room.
A back-to-wall bath has a finished front and sides but pushes against one wall, so it takes less floor and hides the plumbing behind it. Corner versions come in left and right-hand layouts — check which corner yours is going into, because they are not interchangeable.
An insert bath drops into a framed and tiled surround. It is the most economical way to get a bath into a small bathroom and the easiest to seal against a wall.
Measure the doorway and the hall before ordering. A 1700mm freestanding tub has to physically get into the room, and that catches people out in older houses with tight corners.
